“CivicFest combines music, dance, public art, workshops and volunteer opportunities to inspire people to work together for the long term across class, race, and ideology”

“Dear PoPville,

CivicFest combines music, dance, public art, workshops and volunteer opportunities to inspire people to work together for the long term across class, race, and ideology. Building a more equitable DC, and by extension a better world, often begins with a single touchpoint. CivicFest aims to provide that.

We will be collaborating with Aphrosoul Lukumi, whose production, Homage to the Ancestors, combines music, dance and holistic wellness activities for the mind, body and spirit including yoga, qigong, reiki, and spiritual attunements. Dance to classic, world, soulful, deep and afro house music. Join us to give homage to the Ancestors and honor nature in the way it was intended – as a community.

We will also be collaborating with Washington Parks & People, a nonprofit dedicated to the preservation of our city’s parks. WPP played a critical role in the revitalization of Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park and maintains its use as a community space. Take advantage of this historic park on July 21!

Get up. Get inspired. Get involved. You can register or find out more here.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
