Car Stolen at Gunpoint in Brightwood Park 1:30pm Monday; Taxi Driver Robbed on U Street, Forced To Find ATMs – Driver Bails and Suspect Arrested in Petworth 11pm Last Night

“On July 9th, at approximately 1:30pm, in the rear alley of the 5100 block of 7th St NW, a victim reports that her vehicle was taken from her at gunpoint.

The vehicle taken was recovered several hours later in P.G. County.

The suspects are described as black males, 15-17 years of age, with a medium complexion.

Fourth District detectives are actively investigating the case.

“On Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at approximately 11:00pm, Fourth District officers were flagged down by a cab driver who reported that he had been robbed at gunpoint in the 3900 block of Georgia Avenue, NW. The complainant reported that he picked up a fare in the 1100 block of U Street, NW and transported the fare to various areas of Park Road, NW, within the Fourth District. The complainant stated that during the ride, the suspect produced a gun, demanded money and made the complainant drive him around looking for an ATM.

At some point during this incident, the complainant drove into the 3900 block of Georgia Avenue, NW and observed a Fourth District officer. After seeing the officer, the complainant was able to flee from the vehicle and report the robbery. The officer observed the suspect flee from the vehicle and assisting officers were able to apprehend the suspect without incident. Arrested was one adult male.

The complainant was not injured, however, a handgun was recovered from the suspect along with all of the complainant’s property.

Based on the excellent work of Fourth District officers, a dangerous subject was removed from the streets. The Metropolitan Police Department continues to encourage anyone with information related to this or other crimes, to call (202)727-9099.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
