“Dear PoPville,
I am writing to make you aware of a sexual assault that happened to a close friend yesterday evening – Saturday, June 23 at 11:09pm at North Carolina Ave and 6th Street SE (by the Citibank). My friend was walking down 6th Street (towards Penn) when she noticed a man walking behind her, sticking close behind. The street was well-trafficked, so she continued on – staying aware of him. The man approached her and asked her for the time. When she looked at her phone to tell him, he put his arm around her neck and held a gun to her temple. Then, three other men approached and began to sexually assault her while saying they wanted her phone and purse. Finally, a man walked by (and continued to do so) until my friend asked for help. He walked her the rest of the way home. This incident will be reported to the police. That part of 6th St is a well lit and well-trafficked street in our neighborhood. My friend was sober and aware of her surroundings. I wanted to send this as it was a very bold attack in the hopes that you might let others know to stay vigilant.”
