From Alert DC:

“The National Weather Service (NWS) reports the temperature is 89 degrees, with heat index of 95 degrees. Heat index values from 100-102 degrees are expected.

Extreme heat is dangerous and can cause illnesses and death. As temperatures rise, you are encouraged to take an active role in your safety and take action to stay cool.

• Stay indoors: find places in the shade or with air conditioning. Visit a District cooling center.
• Do not leave children or pets in vehicles: vehicles can reach dangerous temperatures within 10 minutes.
• Drink plenty of fluids: increase your fluid intake but don’t drink liquids that contain alcohol, caffeine or large amounts of sugar.
• Wear appropriate clothing and sunscreen: pick lightweight, loose fitting, light-colored clothing, and wide brimmed hats. SPF 15 or higher sunscreen is best.
• Check on your neighbors: young children, the elderly, and those with access and functional needs are the most vulnerable in our community.

For additional extreme heat information, visit ready.dc.gov/heat.”

We’re about a month out from summer. That means you’ve still got time for spring cleaning!

Lexi Grant, an operations manager at Well-Paid Maids, shared her go-to spring cleaning tips with WTOP News. Step one? Declutter. Get rid of items you don’t use, find space for items that need a home and organize those areas.

Then, it’s time to dust. Lexi starts with high-touch surface areas (think: refrigerator, dishwasher, counters, microwave). One area she sees often neglected is the bedroom — and it makes sense. Heavy furniture is difficult to move around, but it’s important to really get in there so dust doesn’t affect your sleep.
