Here are the Street Closures for Saturday’s DC Bike Ride

From a press release:

“The 3rd Annual DC Bike Ride presented by CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and Events DC will take place on Saturday, May 19, 2018, with an 8 a.m. start time and 12 p.m. finish time. This half-day event includes a 20-mile bike ride and finish festival celebration. The route starts in West Potomac Park, SW, crosses through two of the city’s eight wards and ends on Maryland Avenue at 3rd Street, SW.

Event officials advise the public that temporary, intermittent street closings will be in effect on Saturday May 19, 2018.

Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) will handle the alteration of traffic patterns and enforce moving violations. The bike ride is scheduled to begin at approximately 8:00 am; however some street closures will begin as early as 12:00 am for the start/finish lines festival area build out, and 6:30 am for the route closures. All streets affected by the 2018 DC Bike Ride are expected to be reopened at approximately 12:00 pm and the festival area by 5:00 pm. Metrorail will be running on a normal Saturday schedule. Some bus lines will be affected; WMATA will advise as to these bus route detours and delays.

Persons with unessential travel should avoid driving in all areas affected by the event. It is imperative that District residents review the route map and times of closures to confirm whether desired routes will be available, and to identify streets, which may be used to get around the ride route and to other parts of the city.

Streets will reopen on a rolling basis as soon as the last participant has passed and all course support materials have been removed. Public safety officials are committed to reopening streets along the route as quickly as it is safe to do so. For more information, please visit http://dcbikeride.com/road-closures

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
