Man Shot in the Leg after Struggle with Special Police Officer at SW Waterfront Safeway around 6am

1100 4th Street, SW

From MPD:

“Shortly after 6am this morning your First District members received a call for service and responded to the Safeway located at 1100 4thStreet S.W., for an Assault on a Police Officer. It was determined that a suspect was attempting to steal several items and leave the store without paying for the items.

The Special Police Officer (SPO) working at the Safeway stopped the suspect. The suspect began to fight the SPO. The suspect grabbed the SPO’s service weapon and after a brief struggle, the suspect was shot in the leg.

The SPO was able to retrieve his weapon from the suspect prior to the suspect fleeing.

Shortly thereafter, members of the Fifth District received a call for service for a man that was shot at the Rhode Island Avenue metro station. Subsequent investigation revealed that this person was, in fact, our same suspect that fled from Safeway after assaulting the SPO. The suspect was identified and placed under arrest.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
