21st Set of Entries for the 2010 Coolest Pet in PoPville Contest

Ed. Note: The deadline has passed for entries, we got over 300! If you missed the deadline, save your shots for next year, sorry no exceptions. I will be posting initial entries for 1 more week or so before the semifinal rounds commence. Remember if you have a favorite please let me know. If you emailed a photo of your pet I promise all photos will be posted, patience please, there are tons (literally hundreds) of pets in PoPville!

Norbies

“Norbies has whiskers. They are long. He enjoys cardboard boxes and sneaking outside to lounge in the sun.”

Comet

“Our rescued coonhound Comet (named after the defunct wonderful deli on Columbia Rd) caught in the act of her favorite pastime (other than of course barking cats).”

Myrtle

“Myrtle is from Columbia Heights. She loves Malcolm X Park and people.”

Lots more great entries after the jump.

Woodley

“Australian Cattle Dog Woodley frolicking in the snow.”

Goblin and Norbies

Eloise

“This is Eloise. I adopted her from WARL last year and she is in her favorite spot, my closet.”

Mercury

“Here is a picture of my shelter cat, Mercury (her littermate is Jupiter). She is 13 years old. About 3 years ago, she had a malignant and aggressive cancer believed to be a result of a vaccine. After all other options failed (chemo, tumor removal, etc.), I had to have her front left leg amputated. I am very happy to report, however, that she is doing great now (keeping fingers crossed). This picture was taken during her recovery after the procedure. I used a doggy t-shirt to over her bandages to help keep the area clean, and, of course, she wanted to be styling.”

Colby

“I give you Colby. This isn’t the best picture of him (he’s insanely handsome) but I call your attention to the stick-on earring he’s sporting. Good looks, a sense of style, and infinite patience with toddler-girl antics makes him the coolest pet in PoPville, hands down.”

Stella

“This is Stella — she enjoys swimming and dismembering chew toys.”

Olyox

“Olyox happily endures the laughs and photos people take as he whizzes past in speeds of up to 60 mph. PoP unknowingly featured a photo of him last month, sporting his red booties while out on a run with his bicycling Dad.”

MC

“M.C. the cat is actually about the same weight of a Chipotle burrito :)”

Joey

“This is Joey. I got her a week after the Democratic convention and named her after Biden. She was named “Buttons” on the Washington Humane Society’s website when I went looking for her and I had to go through three cats before I found her. Since it was about the be Fall all the black cats were in the front office in a Halloween display explaining they need good homes to keep them from people who do terrible things to them that time of year.”

Monty

“Monty, also called “Monster”, is a 14-pound rescue from Georgia. He splits his time chasing toys, eating more food than should be possible, and generally being an asshole, which I love him for.”

Bowdie

“Bowdie is thirsty.”

Charlie

“This is Charlie my Capitol dog. Go him from local rescue about 5 years ago. He’s my early morning walking buddy – I have pictures of him all over DC!”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
