20th Set of Entries for the 2010 Coolest Pet in PoPville Contest

Ed. Note: The deadline has passed for entries, we got over 300! If you missed the deadline, save your shots for next year, sorry no exceptions. I will be posting initial entries for 1 more week or so before the semifinal rounds commence. Remember if you have a favorite please let me know. If you emailed a photo of your pet I promise all photos will be posted, patience please, there are tons (literally hundreds) of pets in PoPville!

Dizzy

“Dizzy is a 3 year-old boxer mix with a funky white star on his chest. Though originally a stray puppy from Raleigh, North Carolina, his jazz-inspired name (after Dizzy Gillespie) and obvious star power make him a perfect fit here in DC.”

Cutie Pie

I call this one “Trouble with 39 Across”.

Penny

“This is Penny, a 1.5 year old retriever mix. She was rescued from a high-kill shelter in rural South Carolina. Now she lives near Dupont and enjoys destroying anything that squeaks, chasing tennis balls, rescuing fallen tortilla chips from the Lariol patio and pretending to be a fox.”

More great entries after the jump.

Seymour

“His name is Seymour. Rescued him through K-9 Lifesavers last month. I think he’s somewhere between 1 and 2 years old. His interests include being shy at the dog park and ripping apart the bed he’s seen sleeping in. But he’s a cutie!”

Miiiister

“This is Miiiister, a sneezing cat. His disgusting habit of spraying furniture, baseboards, and people’s faces with sneezes causes everyone to wonder why they like him so much. If he had a Coolest Pet in PoPville title, the mystery could easily be explained away!”

Clint Eastwood

“His name is Clint Eastwood, I adopted him from the NE DC Humane Society 10 years ago. Adopting a pet adds so much to one’s life, I highly recommend it for anyone who has lots of time to be selfless, responsible, and reliable!”

Cat with blanket

Ed. Note: No name give so I’m going with ‘cat with blanket’

“Hannibal (bullmastiff) in front, playing with his friend Ginger (poodle) in snowpocolypse.”

Tony

“This is my cat Tony. He is a charismatic and very friendly tabby. He resides in Dupont Circle. He’s 16 yrs young and is a fighter! He recently fell out of our window of our apt building on Swann st and broke his leg but has recovered fully and is as loveable as ever!”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
