The 2009 listing for this property does not indicate that this was a bank owned property. It’s possible that it had been a long time owner or part of an estate. Perhaps they were ambivalent about selling, as it took some time to get down to a realistic list price. The original Good Deal or Not (GDoN) post did not have any available pictures of the house, but see the link for the listing under BEFORE to see the starting place for the current renovation.

Second sale follows after the jump.

GDoN comments on the value of the renovation were generally positive. Proximity to Metro was particularly noted as an asset. On looking up comparable sales in this part of the neighborhood, I was surprised to find few recent renovated sales up to this price point. Given the continual expansion of commercial development coming up around the Petworth Metro and Columbia Heights, I expect this to be an area that over the next few years will see an increase in renovated homes and subsequent sales.

In real life, hipchickindc is actually the not-so-hip Suzanne Des Marais, an associate broker with Urban Pace. Voted one of the best real estate agents in DC by the Washington City Paper Readers’ Choice Poll in 2009, Suzanne is currently Chair of the DC Public Policy Committee for the Greater Capital Area Association of REALTORS® and is President Elect of the Washington, DC Association of REALTORS®. She lives (and sells a lot of houses) in Bloomingdale, but works all over DC, with everyone from first time buyers to highly regarded developers.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
