Mobile Art Gallery Kick-Off Event in Bruce Monroe Park, 2-4pm this Saturday

“Dear PoPville,

Wanted to be sure to let you know about the upcoming Kick-Off Event this Saturday, 2-4pm as part of the traveling art exhibit that has landed (with the wind!) in Park View.

CulturalDC partnered with District Bridge’s Lower Georgia Ave Main Street to locate their prestigious mobile art gallery installation in the Bruce Monroe Community Park (3000 Georgia Ave NW) for the month of March.

The installation involves a 40-foot refurbished, solar-powered shipping container that creates a mobile, interactive art gallery. CulturalDC has selected only one location in each Ward for installation with the prior locations at Riverfront, Smithsonian National Zoo and Union Market.(Headed next to Smithsonian’s Anacostia Community Museum.) Each installation has a different competitively selected artist. Kick-off activities include family-oriented, hands-on arts & crafts, kids games, dance/music performances, featured artist remarks, and local food vendors.

The installation will be at Bruce Monroe Community Park until April 13. Hours are:

Wednesday-Friday: 1PM-7PM
Saturday-Sunday: 10AM-7PM

A community workshop with the artist in partnership with The Lemon Collective will be at the park under the gazebo on March 24, 1-3pm.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
