16th Set of Entries for the 2010 Coolest Pet in PoPville Contest

Ed. Note: The deadline has passed for entries, we got over 300! If you missed the deadline, save your shots for next year, sorry no exceptions. I will be posting initial entries for 2 more weeks or so before the semifinal rounds commence. Remember if you have a favorite please let me know. If you emailed a photo of your pet I promise all photos will be posted, patience please, there are tons (literally hundreds) of pets in PoPville!

Claude-Phillipe

“Claude-Phillipe, in an hermaphroditic frenzy, laid some eggs last week. If any PoPsters would like to experience the dynamism and charisma of the gastropod, we may have some offspring up for adoption in a few weeks.”

Gunny

“This is Gunny, our pit-bull/ black lab/ dachshund puppy. He loves his fetching toy so much that he takes it everywhere, including the RFK farmers market.”

Pete

“Pete should be a PoPville ambassador. After getting lost from his family, a nice PoPville resident picked him up and posted him on the PoP website last August. His owner, Lauren, is very lucky to have found him! He is a total sweetheart (even though he looks like a cartoon in this picture). Vote for Pete!”

More great entries after the jump.

Rani

“This is Rani. As a Maine Coon cat living in an un-airconditioned Petworth row house, she’s been dropping hints about needing a vacation.”

Mia and Kobi

“Here’s a photo of my two dogs, Mia and Kobi, who in my opinion are the coolest dogs ever! Both were rescued from local shelters. Mia (left; shepherd, husky mix) is 5 years old and was adopted when she was only 5 months old. Kobi (right; shepherd, akita mix) is only two years old and was recently rescued this past December 2009.

This photo was taken during one of the big snow storms that hit DC this past winter. After a fun day playing at doggy park, we came home where both dogs past out quite quickly. Though Mia and Kobi were just introduced a few days prior, you can see that they were inseparable.”

Chloe Elizabeth

“This is the best little resident of Petworth, Chloe (Well, Chloe Elizabeth to be exact). She started out as just a little puppy who was dropped off along the side of the road and wandered her way onto a farm. I heard about this little addition and as soon as I arrived and walked over to her, she bit my finger and what can I say, it was love at first bite. As you can see she has perfected that “I’m just ohhh soo adorable” look over the years and I can honestly say that I can’t imagine a better pet.”

Lola

This is our dog Lola. She’s a terrier mix we got from a rescue foundation in northern Virginia. We’ve had her for just about a year and she’s the best. She is so cute that people always ask what breed she is because they think she’s some special designer breed but she’s really just the cutest little mutt ever. As you can see from the picture, her favorite pasttime is lounging on the couch and she’s a great cuddler.”

Haywire

“Haywire is a wonderful accident – and lives up to her name. She started off being born inside a hay baler in Texas. When Dad and I started up the baler about 10 days later, the first new bale that came down the trestle had this little gray kitten bundled up in it – her head sticking out of one end. And that’s how I got one of the smartest, happiest cats I’ve ever known – and the shiniest, silver cat I’ve ever seen, which you can’t see that well in the photo I’ve submitted (of my less than shiny kitchen). Anyway, Haywire is now about seven, and the proud owner of a front and back yard in Petworth, as well as the whole house where she unrolls paper towels and toilet paper, chases june bugs, jumps at paper mice, and still will run at top speed through all three floors just because she likes to run.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
