“After 40 years of running a retail business I have decided that it is time for me to retire. This was not an easy decision but I am excited and am looking forward to the next part of my life.
Words cannot express the gratitude I owe to each of you who supported the store over the years. Wake Up Little Suzie not only survived but thrived in Cleveland Park.
I thank you all for your patronage and your friendship. I thank you for making Wake Up Little Suzie a part of your lives and a part of our great neighborhood. I have known some of you since 1977 when I opened my first store, As Time Goes By, on Capitol Hill. I got to know more of you when Wake Up Little Suzie opened in Adams Morgan in 1988. When I moved to Cleveland Park in 1993, I knew I was home thanks to the loyalty and support I received from all of you.
Wake Up Little Suzie’s success would not have been possible without Tim Bellis. I owe him more thanks than I can ever express. I am also grateful to all the wonderful part-timers who have helped over the years. I never could have done this without you.
It is always hard to say goodbye, but I want to share some exciting news. Pierre Abushacra and the Firehook Bakery team will be starting a new business unique to Cleveland Park in my space. I think this is a wonderful development for the neighborhood and I hope you will join me in wishing Pierre the best with his new local venture.
My retirement sale will begin on March 3rd, and in order to prepare, the store will be closed March 1st and 2nd.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
