FRIDAY, FEB. 23

VROOM VROOM: Get out your leather – it’s the Washington, D.C. Motorcyle Show this weekend. For those that heed the call of the open road, it’s the ultimate gathering: stunt shows, demo rides, vintage bike displays, sweepstakes, vendors, and more will all be on-site. (Walter E. Washington Convention Center, times vary, $16)

BOOK TALK: To celebrate both Black History Month and W.E.B. DuBois’s 150th birthday, National Book Award winner Ibram Kendi and Howard English professor Dana Williams will be in conversation tonight at Kramerbooks. They’ll discuss DuBois’s seminal piece, Souls of Black Folk, along with his other philosophies, and the resounding effect they had on society from the Civil Rights movement to today. (Kramerbooks, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., FREE)

DO THE VOGUE: It’s D.C. Fashion Week, and there’s plenty to check out. See a showcase of Haitian-designed clothes at the Embassy of Haiti today, take in emerging designers on Saturday, or go high-end at a couture runway show Sunday. It’ll be a very posh weekend in the District. (Locations, times, and prices vary)

BACK TO THE FUTURE: This isn’t your usual happy hour – a psychic will be at Station Kitchen to look into your future over cocktails. She’ll tell you how she does it during a Q&A session, after which she’ll give everyone a personal reading or answer group questions via Angel Cards. The first question: Who will buy my drinks tonight…? (Station Kitchen & Cocktails, 6 – 9 p.m., $30)

MORE: Meeting of the Sexes (Busboys and Poets, 5:30 – 8 p.m., $10), Black Renaissance: Networking Event + Opening Reception (Distinctly Creative, 8 – 11 p.m., $10), Workshop: An Introduction to Fermentation (U.S. Botanic Garden, 6:30 – 9 p.m., $35), Writing Dillon Ripley: From Archive to Book (Smithsonian Libraries, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., FREE, registration required)

SATURDAY, FEB. 24

SK8R GURLS: Cheer on some badass chicks at the D.C. Rollergirls’ season opener today. The AllStars team will take on the Derby Dames from Charlottesville first, and then the National Maulers will compete against another Charlottesville team later. Roll on. (D.C. Armory, 4:30 p.m., $15)

HERE’S TO YOU: Throw ’em back local-style at the D.C. Distillers Festival. Over 20 area craft distillers will gather Saturday to offer samples of their booze at this speakeasy-inspired fete, complete with a jazz band straight out of the 1920s. Don your flapper gear and sip cocktails by the likes of Founding Spirits and Cirrus Vodka all night long. (Long View Gallery, 1 – 10 p.m., $85 – $150)

CULTURE ‘N’ BOOZE: Studio Theatre’s Friends With Benefits program specifically targets young professionals, and it’s hosting a special viewing of the Pulitzer Prize-nominated play The Wolves today. The show follows a group of teenage girls as they defend their indoor soccer track record. The matinee will have brunch and bottomless mimosas included in the ticket price because, well, #millennials. (Studio Theatre, 12:30 p.m., prices vary)

CITY SEASONS: Inspired by the “Seasons in the City” mural in Shaw, the nearby apartment complex Trellis House is opening an immersive pop-up art show. “Experience the Seasons” simulates fall, winter, spring, and summer in the District through a series of installations that mimic the look, smell, and feel of each season. The exhibit was designed sustainably, so each piece will be reused post-show. (Trellis House, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., FREE, registration required)

MORE: 5th Annual Chili Cook-Off (Hill Country, 1 – 3 p.m., $10 – $12), PUBLIQuartet: Freedom and Faith (Sixth & I, 8 – 9:30 p.m., $40), Happy New Year Pop-Up (One Eight Distilling, 2 – 6 p.m., FREE), The Modern Victory Garden (Anacostia Community Museum, 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., FREE, registration required), Shaw Neighborhood Walking Tour (Carter G. Woodson Home National Historic Site, 1 – 3 p.m., FREE), Fit and Fabulous Health and Wellness Forum (Harry Thomas Recreation Center, 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., FREE, registration required), Monopoly on the Mall: Live Action Board Game (Ollie’s Trolley, 11:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., $20), Intro to Essential Oils & Holistic Wellness (Humble Beast CrossFit, 12 noon – 1:30 p.m., FREE, registration required)

SUNDAY, FEB. 25

FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD: Meet at Union Station’s lobby to take off on a food tour of H Street. A guide will walk you through the booming neighborhood’s history and its present-day grub. Sure, there’s the Whole Foods and Cava, but H Street has so much more to explore – plan to try a little of everything, from Italian to Middle Eastern. (Meet at Union Station lobby, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., $49)

TURN OVER THE CARD: Will he return that text? Will you get the job? Who will Ari pick on The Bachelor? The future’s unanswered questions will be a thing of the past once you take a tarot card workshop. Learn the basics of this old practice through hands-on instruction – it’s designed for beginners, so no previous experience is necessary. (The Lemon Collective, 1 – 5 p.m., $95)

WORKING WOMEN: This meetup at Tredici Enoteca is for Latina creatives and entrepreneurs. Meet with fellow small business owners, bloggers, artists, and creators to network and mingle. Don’t show up late – the first 50 women to arrive will get a goody bag. (Tredici Enoteca, 4 – 6:30 p.m., FREE, registration required)

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU: Brunch is cool, but all-day brunch while watching the original Star Wars trilogy is cooler. Hang out with Chewie, R2D2, Jabba and the gang while eating breakfast food and enjoying bottomless Bloodys. Clear your afternoon schedule – A New Hope comes on at noon, then it’s The Empire Strikes Back at 2 p.m., and the Return of the Jedi at 4 p.m. (Slash Run, 12 noon – 7 p.m., FREE)

MORE: Rachael Yamagata (Union Stage, 7:30 p.m., $25 – $35), Frederick Douglass and Howard University (Carter G. Woodson Home National Historic Site, 1 – 3 p.m., FREE), Magic 101 (The Lemon Collective, 5:30 – 7 p.m., $50)

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
