Black Panther Pop Up Bar Coming to Red Lounge at 14th and U!

2013 14th Street, NW

From a press release:

“On Thursday, February 15th, The Wave USA will unveil their “Enter Wakanda”, interactive experience and pop up bar event at Red Lounge located at 2013 14th St NW. In celebration of the premiere of Marvel’s Black Panther, the pop-up bar will be available to the public from Thursday through Monday, highlighted by interactive experiences, art installations, musical entertainment and a specially curated drink menu.

The idea was sparked by Wave co-founder Gregory Jackson, “It began as an idea for a happy hour to compliment a private viewing for the movie and grew into something much more important.” Jackson continued, “we saw an opportunity to create the type of experience that would never be created for us, so we decided, if not us, then who?”

In order to complete this experience, The Wave tapped in to the talent of DC residents:

•   Commissioned local artists to develop themed rooms.
•   Commissioned local technicians to create unique light installations.
•   Featured a collection of local DJ’s to curate the music for the experience.
•   Featured one of DC’s hidden gem black owned restaurants in the middle of the U Street corridor.

This is a ticketed event and tickets can be purchased online. Tickets start at $5 during the day and $10 during DJ performances.  Tickets will also be available at the door for an additional fee. Tickets can be found at here.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
