8th Set of Entries for the 2010 Coolest Pet in PoPville Contest

Ed. Note: Entries accepted through July 23rd. Remember if you have a favorite please let me know. If you emailed a photo of your pet I promise all photos will be posted, patience please, there are tons of pets in PoPville!

Daisy

“This is Daisy. She looks forward to winning the competition.”

Frank

“I am nominating my English bulldog puppy, Frank, as the coolest dog in PoPville.”

Billie Jean

“Billie Jean returns! She’s a year older and just as awesome as ever. Just like last year, this is not at all a staged photo. She regularly jumps on my skateboard on her own. Contrary to popular belief (twitter.com/evilbilliejean) she is not at all evil. (The pet owner (me) had nothing to do with the creation of this twitter account).”

Lots more great entries after the jump.

Cali and Whistler

“Cali (left) and Whistler (right) love to look out the window at Parkwood and Holmead. They are huge fans of PoP, and proud to call this neighborhood home.”

Honey

“We adopted her from the Washington Humane Society in January and she is awesome! In her free time, she gives high-fives (or tens since she does it with both paws) and the best hugs.”

Phoebe

“This is a picture of my cat Phoebe at her foster parents’ home. She was rescued from a construction site in Philly last year and now resides in the U Street Corridor.”

Kava

“He got the name from the traditional Fijian tribal drink (where his owner has spent some time). He is a 2yr old rescue dog that is a redbone coonhound, mixed with some retriever.”

Sunny

“Here’s Sunny: he’s a cool bastard.”

Truman

“Truman was a rescue from the Washington Humane Society’s New York Avenue shelter, and upon bringing him home, he immediately adopted our laundry basket as his bed.”

Mr. Big

“This is Mr. Big, a boston terrier-type thing, he hates snow, rain, cold, and heat but ALWAYS wants to go for a walk. He will play frisbee until the point of fatal exhaustion if we let him and as you can see, will let our young daughter pretend he is a furrier version of her baby dolls without complaint. And that guilty look he sports, it’s usually pretty accurate to include peeing on just dry-cleaned clothes and eating dirty baby diapers, but we love him anyways.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
