Southwest On-street Parking to Get Worse

It will soon become even more difficult for visitors to park on-street near DC’s shiny new Waterfront. A resolution passed last night (October 16) by Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 6D/Waterfront urges DC authorities to extend the resident parking hours from 8:30pm daily to midnight, seven days a week, throughout the Waterfront area.

Right now, the area has a patchwork of parking signs, with some blocks already marked with signs permitting two-hour parking only for non-residents from 7am to midnight, and other blocks signed from 7am to 8:30pm. ANC Commissioner Gail Fast (district 01) said streets that currently had signs with the earlier time included G Street SW from 7th Street to 9th Street, and the south side of G Street SW from 7th Street to 4th Street.

Meeting attendees heard that the ANC had met with Mayor Muriel Bowser and heads of relevant departments last month. ANC Chair Andy Litsky (Commissioner for district 04) said Bowser told department heads to start ticketing and towing in the area. At the same meeting, Bowser also asked the ANC to draft a resolution to extend resident parking uniformly until midnight, Commissioner Fast said.

The resolution was passed unanimously by all Commissioners present.
