Oh My God The Wharf is Insane and Phase One is Now Open

I shall provide no commentary beyond Sweet Mother Maria was right!!

I shall provide a million photos that still marvel despite the awful weather:

A million more including many of the coming restaurants and bars after the jump.

Inside Politics and Prose:

Inside Pearl Street Warehouse with some Booker T. Jones!

I’m still gonna miss Cantina Marina (last day is October 28):

From the Mayor’s Office:

On Thursday, October 12, at 10:30 a.m., Mayor Muriel Bowser will attend the grand opening of Phase 1 of The Wharf, a new mile-long waterfront neighborhood of residential, hotel, office, retail, and entertainment venues on the Potomac River in Southwest, DC.

During the event, Mayor Bowser will highlight the economic impact of the 3.2 million square-foot development, which will produce nearly 6,000 permanent jobs and provide $94 million in direct annual tax revenue to the District. The Bowser Administration invested approximately $200 million in tax increment financing and secured agreements with The Wharf to hire at least 51 percent of Washingtonians – 20 percent designated for Ward 8 residents; 30 percent of apprenticeships for Wards 7 and 8 residents; and The Wharf invested $1 million in workforce training for DC residents.

Earlier this week, Mayor Bowser unveiled two new transit methods to get to The Wharf: the Southwest DC Shuttle and the Water Taxi. The neighborhood shuttle service will run seven days a week and is free and open to the public. The regional water taxi service will begin on Thursday, October 12, with stops in Georgetown, Old Town Alexandria, and scheduled to expand to the National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland in Spring 2018. Approximately 20,000 residents and visitors are expecting to visit The Wharf on each of the four days of opening events.

For more information on how to get to The Wharf, visit wharfdc.com or download the District Wharf app for iPhone or Android. Information on the District’s traffic plan for the opening of The Wharf can be found at ddot.dc.gov.”

Finding a gift for moms can be difficult. Google “Mother’s Day gifts,” and you’ll scroll through endless lists of beauty products, candles and fuzzy robes. Sure, those are sweet, but sometimes it’s fun to surprise loved ones with something a little more, well, practical!

Here’s one idea: Give her a gift certificate for a home cleaning from Well-Paid Maids. It’s the perfect “thank you,” “I love you” or “you’ve got this” for any mom. She can schedule the home cleaning at her convenience and breathe easy knowing she has one less thing to do.

Our cleaners will take care of everything, including vacuuming and mopping as well as cleaning and dusting countertops, tables, mirrors, appliances and more. Sinks, toilets, showers and appliance exteriors also get a good scrub.
