Last Push Before Opening this Fall, Kickstarter launched for Supra’s artwork. “Beyond khachapuri: We’re the first restaurant to bring authentic food from Georgia to DC.”

“Supra (1205 11th Street, NW), DC’s first Georgian restaurant, set to open later this fall has just launched a kickstarter campaign. The campaign, details of which can be found here, is focused on fundraising for the restaurant’s artwork, which will feature pieces from Georgian, Russian and DC-based artists. Custom commissions include pieces from White Studio in Tbilisi (and artisans in the countryside), the Petrovka Art Studio in Moscow), and Schwa Design in Washington, DC. The owners, Jonathan and Laura Nelms, have also commissioned a Georgian street artist, Gagosh, who will paint a mural on the brick wall of the bar.

The rewards are varied, including t-shirts, Georgian alphabet post cards, khachapuri and khinkali classes, papakhi (a traditional, puffy Georgian hat, featured in the campaign’s video) and an opportunity to visit, tour and eat throughout Georgia.
