“Calle Cinco, A Spanish Tapas Pop-up Opening Adjacent to Alta Strada on September 12”

465 K Street, NW

From an email:

“Schlow Restaurant Group is excited to announce the launch of a casual tapas inspired pop-up called Calle Cinco. Beginning on September 12 and led by Chef George Rodrigues, the menu will feature a broad selection of authentic and modern takes on Spanish-style tapas and cocktails, many of which are inspired by Chef George’s travels to and extensive time spent in Spain. Calle Cinco will operate adjacent to Alta Strada, in the space housing the tasting menu restaurant Conosci.

Chef George and team plan to offer the Mt. Vernon Triangle neighborhood a lively, yet relaxed option for Spanish food and drink. Expect traditional tapas like papas bravas, gambas al ajilo, and Medjool dates with bacon and cabrales alongside more modern interpretations like croquetas de paella – crunchy paella flavored rice with black aioli. Executive Pastry Chef Alex Levin has designed a Spanish-leaning dessert menu featuring crema Catalan, horchata helato with dulce de leche caramel, and churros dipped in hot fudge. An all-Spanish wine list will feature red, white, rose and sparkling wines in addition to sangrias, sherry cocktails and infused gin and tonics.

The critically acclaimed Conosci is on hiatus and will relocate to a new location in the future. As an appreciation to all guests, Conosci’s $35 Restaurant Week menu can be enjoyed through September 9th, in addition to the restaurant’s $85, 9-course menu and $135, 13-course menu.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
