From a press release:

“Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets presents the 8th Annual 17th Street Festival, an event celebrating the shops, restaurants, and services of 17th Street. The street festival will take place on Saturday, August 26, 2017 from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. in the 1500-1600 blocks of 17th Street, NW in Washington DC. The festival includes a wide variety of street vendors, including artists, makers, entrepreneurs, politicians, and kids activities – rain or shine.

“The festival has really grown this year!” said Promotion Committee Chair Sue Taylor. “We are officially sold out of vendor spaces – one month before the festival. This is the first year this has happened – because the festival has a great reputation for being a community arts event.”

The 17th Street Festival will include entertainment all day on the street, including a flamenco dancer with guitar, mariachi band to enliven the day, a Chinese dragon dancer to add some mystery, and a New Orleans jazz band to bring some charm.

The festival will include more than 60 artists displaying everything from oil paintings to pottery, jewelry to jam, cigars to candy, and every creative item in between. Other vendors will include area nonprofit organizations, politicians, and local entrepreneurs. The Kids Zone has been expanded with a moon bounce, face painting, snow cones, and soccer demonstration.

The festival is free, but we are offering a discounted wristband to promote the great restaurants along 17th Street. For $12, each guest will have access to discounted drinks, appetizers, and entrees all day at the participating restaurants along 17th Street. Come for the art and stay for the food!

The 17th Street Festival is organized by Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets, with major support from the DC Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD), Elxel, Colonial Parking, Attaché Housing, DC Jewish Community Center, Dupont Circle Citizen’s Association, ANC2B, Stonewall Kickball, TD Bank, PNC Bank, Friends of Stead Park, and Redwood Real Estate.

The mission of Historic Dupont Main Streets is to promote, coordinate, and maintain improvements of the cultural, economic, and environmental qualities of Dupont Circle to make it an exemplary place to live, work, shop, and play.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
