2 Men Shot 1 Killed in the 4800 block of Kansas Ave, NW; Shooting at 15th and Euclid

“On Sunday around 2:00 am, MPD responded to the sounds of gunshots in the 4800 block of Kansas Avenue NW and found two adult males suffering from gunshot wounds. One of them was taken to local hospital and is in very critical condition. The second male was pronounced dead. Currently the only description for a suspect is a Hispanic male wearing a white t-shirt who was last seen running south on Kansas Avenue NW.

“The Third District is currently investigating a shooting in the 2600 block of 15th Street, NW. An adult male victim has been taken to an area hospital for treatment. Motorists and pedestrians should avoid the area due to road closures.

“Shortly after 12:30 AM on July 30, 2017, MPD units received a 911 call for a man with a gun in the 900 block of Longfellow Street, NW. The complainant reported that he was doing his laundry in his building’s laundry room when the suspect threatened him with a gun. The suspect was located and was positively identified by the complainant as the one who threatened him with a gun. The suspect was placed under arrest for ADW Gun. A revolver, which turned out to be an imitation starter pistol, was also found in the suspect’s proximity.”

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 4800 block of Kansas Avenue, Northwest, on Sunday, July 30, 2017.

At approximately 2:00 am, members of the Fourth District responded to the area for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, they discovered two adult males suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims was discovered in the 4800 block of Kansas Avenue, Northwest, unconscious, but breathing. He was transported to an area hospital in grave condition. The second victim was discovered in the 4800 block of 5th Street, Northwest, unconscious and unresponsive. DC Fire and EMS found no signs consistent with life and pronounced him dead. The victim remained on the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The decedent has not been identified.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
