The building owner where we do business has decided to sell. After several months of thoughtful conversations Jason and I have decided to sell the business to pursue new opportunities that have presented themselves. SSB Deli will be closing on July 31st 2017 until the new owner is ready to re-open [as a restaurant] at a date that is to be determined.
We would like to thank everyone for the wonderful years that we have shared. Many of you are weekly regulars that have been frequenting the shop for over 5 years. I’ve been able to have the pleasure to meet most of you in person and we’ve gotten to know each other very well. You’ve become my friends and it has been fulfilling to serve the community. It’s been an honor to have built a place that you could come to get a bit of comfort food and see a familiar face. The shop originated as a small idea while we were in college. My dream has always been to contribute to the place where I grew up.
Jason and I built SSB with the help of our family and professors at the Culinary Institute of America. I’ve been here almost every day since then. What I thought would be a small neighborhood charcuterie has become so much more than we could have imagined. I thank God everyday for blessing us with the opportunity to share our craft with all of you. You’ve been there to see me grow professionally and personally and have filled my days with joy. I’d also like to extend my sincerest gratitude to Mayor Bowser, former Mayor Gray, and Councilmember Robert White for supporting our business along the way.
I’ve been working with our staff throughout the year to ensure that they will have a smooth transition into the next steps of their careers. Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
