Outdoor Summer Concert Series Celebrating “Americana and folk, country, blues, jazz, and zydeco” Returns to U.S. Botanic Garden Starting June 22

“The United States Botanic Garden is pleased to announce the return of their popular American Roots Music Concert Series for 2017. The summer concert series, which the USBG first offered in 2015, celebrates American roots music – Americana and folk, country, blues, jazz, and zydeco.

Concerts June through August will be held outdoors in the National Garden Amphitheater surrounded by the beautiful Regional Garden of native plants (rain location inside the Conservatory in the Garden Court). The USBG continues to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the National Garden, which opened in 2006. All concerts are free of charge. Amphitheater seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

June 22 5 – 7 pm Parker & Gray (blues and roots)
July 13 5 – 7 pm Forlorn Strangers (Americana / country)
July 27 5 – 7 pm Cathy Ponton King (roots rock)
August 10 5 – 7 pm Gaye & the Wild Rutz (blues and roots)
August 24 5 – 7 pm Dede Wyland (bluegrass)
September 14 5 – 7 pm David Bach (jazz)
September 28 5 – 7 pm Jason Ricci (blues)

The U.S. Botanic Garden is open to the public, free of charge, every day of the year from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Conservatory is located at 100 Maryland Ave. SW, on the southwest side of the U.S. Capitol.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
