“We are raising funds to purchase ad space on a DC metro station and replace them with cats.”

Cat Metro Takeover
via Kickstarter

hahaha fantastic!! Thanks to one of the organizers for emailing us. From The Citizens Advertising Takeover Service – Washington, DC kickstarter page:

“Back in September 2016, Citizens Advertising Takeover Service launched the first takeover at Clapham Station in London. So we are now taking it across the pond and launch the first one in the USA, starting with the nation’s capital.

We want to takeover a small DC metro station…something like Dupont Circle or even Cleveland Park (in honor of Ollie, the National Zoo’s bobcat).

Whoa…How?

If we raise enough funds, we can probably takeover half of a small station. But if we raise more than our goal…we could take over the whole station or maybe a station domination (wishful thinking).

ALSO…we are working Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County to provide us with photos of their kitties.

But…Why?

Because…why not? It may be a silly project, but it’s a distraction from the chaotic lives we live. It’s a way to step out of the norm of ads on the Metro…away from convincing us to buy a brand new car, or looking mighty fine in a brand new pair of jeans…or politics.

Even if cats won’t make you happy, admit it…you will smile once you walk past one of these.

Who knows, maybe it will make your day or even your whole month (because that’s how long these ads will be up at a Metro station)!”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
