“Dear PoPville,

While at the Georgetown men’s basketball game on Saturday, the Eastern High School marching band played at halftime and they mentioned they are raising funds to take a trip to New Orleans in April to play and visit Southern University, so band members can talk to the band director about possible scholarships. The Go Fund Me page is below:

eastern2neworleans The Blue and White Marching Machine is excited about the opportunity to travel to Louisiana. This will be the first time our band will be showcased in that region in over 20 years! We will be traveling to New Orleans April 28th-May 1st. As you know, it can be costly to move a large organization, so we need your help. All donations will be greatly appreciated as we embark on this adventure for our students. They will learn about the rich history of New Orleans, additionally, visit and tour prestigious HBCU “Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. While on campus, students will meet with the director of bands and university administrators to discuss scholarship opportunities.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
