“On Friday, January 20, the Washington, DC Government will be closed in observance of Inauguration Day. To prepare for the upcoming inauguration, DC Government launched an interactive geographic information system (GIS) map that provides transportation-related information on the National Mall. The map features data such as street closures, parking restrictions, walking routes, ADA shuttle stops, DC Streetcar stops, reunification centers, warming stations, bike amenities and more.”

Due to street closures and parking restrictions for the Presidential Inauguration, specific city services will operate on an alternative schedule:

Public Schools and Libraries

• DC Public Schools will be closed on Friday, January 20, and resume classes on Monday, January 23. For information on the operating status of individual public charter schools, visit www.dcpcsb.org/blog/inauguration-school-closings.

• DC Public Libraries will be closed on Friday, January 20, and operate on normal schedules on Thursday, January 19, and Saturday, January 21.

Department of Parks and Recreation

• Dunbar Aquatic Center (101 N Street, NW) will be closed Wednesday, January 18 through Saturday, January 21, 2017 due to activities associated with the Inauguration. Operations will resume Monday, January 23, 2017.
• All Department of Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed on Friday, January 20, 2017.

 

Trash and Recycling Collections

• Trash and recycling collections normally made on Thursdays will be made on Friday, January 20. Collections normally made on Fridays will be handled on Saturday, January 21.
• Holiday trees will not be collected on Friday, January 20, and will resume on Monday, January 23. Holiday trees will be collected through January 27 from the curb in front of residents’ homes. Residents disposing of holiday trees and other greenery should strip them of all ornaments and tinsel. Trees and greenery collected after January 27 will be collected with your trash as space permits in the truck.

Fort Totten Transfer Station

 

• Located at 4900 John F. McCormack Drive, NE, the Fort Totten Transfer Station will be closed on Friday, January 20. DC residents may bring bulk trash, recyclable, hazardous waste on Saturday, January 21, between 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

DC Streetcar

 

• Including weekends and holidays, blocked streetcar parking enforcement is daily along H Street and Benning Road, NE, specifically between 3rd Street and Oklahoma Avenue, NE.

Homeless Services

• For updated information on available day programs, warming sites, and hypothermia shelters, visit https://inauguration.dc.gov/page/city-services.

Parking Enforcement

• DC Department of Public Works will ticket and tow for all safety violations such as obstruction of bus stops, driveways, hydrants, crosswalks, and emergency no parking zones.
• Vehicles that violate the ‘Emergency No Parking’ and inaugural-related ‘Reserved Parking’ signs will be ticketed and towed immediately.

• Enforcement of expired meters, residential parking, and rush hour lane restrictions will be suspended on Friday, January 20. Enforcement of all parking restrictions will resume on Saturday, January 21.

• Any vehicles towed in violation of inauguration parking restrictions or street closures will be towed to either Capitol Hill Montessori at Logan (215 G Street, NE) or McKinley Technology High School (151 T Street, NE). For more information, dial 311.

DC Government and federal partners have updated transportation plans for the Presidential Inauguration. The latest information is as follows:

Parking Restrictions

 

• Wednesday, January 18
  • No Street Closures
  • Parking restrictions will begin for the inner vehicle restricted zone (Red Zone) at 12:00 p.m.
  • Parking restrictions surrounding the Lincoln Memorial will begin at 10:00 p.m.

 

• Thursday, January 19
  • Parking restrictions surrounding Union Station will begin at 1:00 a.m.
  • Starting at 3:00 a.m., temporary street closures will begin for the inner restricted zone (Red Zone) and continue throughout the day. Some closures may be permanent, specifically adjacent to Pennsylvania Avenue. Pennsylvania Avenue will not be available for east and west traffic for the majority of the day, but traffic will be allowed to traverse across Pennsylvania Avenue for as long as possible, provided work related to inaugural events is not being conducted in the area.
  • Street closures will start at 5:00 a.m., surrounding the Lincoln Memorial and will remain in effect until approximately 7:00 p.m.
  • Parking restrictions surrounding the Washington Convention Center will begin at 6:00 a.m.
  • Parking restrictions for the outer vehicle restricted zone (Green Zone) will begin at 7:00 a.m.
  • Constitution Avenue, NW & 23rd Street and Constitution Avenue, NW & 17th Street will be closed to all traffic until approximately 7:00 p.m.
  • Street closures around Union Station will begin and remain in effect until approximately 11:00 p.m.
  • Street closures around the Capitol will begin at 5:00 p.m., and the bulk of street closures will also shut down at 11:00 p.m.

 

• Friday, January 20
  • Starting at 3:00 a.m., all streets are closed in the inner restricted zone (Red Zone) and will remain in effect until the conclusion of the Inauguration parade at approximately 6:00 p.m.
  • Street closures around the Washington Convention Center will begin at 10:00 a.m., and remain in effect until 12:00 a.m.

Bicycles are not permitted inside the inner vehicle restricted zone (Red Zone) on Inauguration Day, and there are no restrictions on bicycle usage in the outer vehicle restricted zone (Green Zone).

Taxis, For Hire Vehicles – such as Uber and Lyft – and pedicabs are not permitted to operate inside the vehicle restricted zones (Green and Red Zones).

All street closures are subject to changes due to prevailing public safety concerns, traffic patterns that could adversely impact public safety, additions of events, or changes to the schedule.
