From a press release:

“ABOUT JOSELITO CASA DE COMIDAS: Joselito Casa de Comidas, located at 660 Pennsylvania Avenue SE, was created by Javier Candon to bring a piece of Spain to the Eastern Market neighborhood of Capitol Hill. It is an intimate 70 seat eatery reminiscent of the timeless establishments found throughout Spain at the turn of the century.

The restaurant will hold a “soft opening” from Monday, January 9 to Sunday, January 15. During these days, we will offer guests a 20 percent discount on our food. From Monday, January 9 to Wednesday, January 11, we will be open only for dinner from 5:30- 10 p.m. Beginning Thursday, January 12, we will be open daily for lunch and dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and from 11:30 a.m. to 12 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

OUR INSPIRATION: The restaurant is an homage to Javier’s late father, José, who enjoyed long, leisurely family meals at restaurants that had an “old school” feel and a warm, casual, and inviting ambiance. “Joselito” was José’s childhood nickname, as well as the name of one of his favorite bullfighters (Joselito el Gallo) and a popular child actor in the 50s in Spain (José Jiménez Fernández).

OUR CUISINE: Our menu features traditional family recipes from Spain, but prepared with the modern techniques of today. Most of the dishes on the menu are offered in three sizes—tapa (equivalent to an appetizer size), media ración (entree) and ración (family style portion)—so that guests can craft their own culinary journey.

HEMINGWAY HOUR: We offer our “Hemingway Hour” daily from 4-7 in the evening. Guests can enjoy everything on the menu with a 20 percent discount.

OUR BEVERAGE PROGRAM: We are proud to feature a beverage program that reflects our favorite beers, wines, cavas, sherries, sangrias, and vermouths from Spain. These are the labels that we have visited during our journeys to Spain and those that we drink at home with our own family and friends.

Our cocktails were created with a large dose of passion and love by Javier, who received the highly coveted “best mixologist” in Spain title when he began his career decades ago. Joselito’s cocktail names reflect historical and prominent figures in Spain during the early 1900s, as well as popular sayings that remind Javier of his father and family. In addition, our beverage program includes Javier’s homemade infusions and digestifs for discerning guests looking to savor a post meal libation.

OUR DESIGN: Joselito’s decor is meant to transport guests to the glamour and simplicity of Old World Spain. Oversized gold antique mirrors, Candon family photos dating back to the early 1900s, vintage posters from Javier’s hometown in Southern Spain, and family mementos adorn the walls. Marble tables and bistro chairs from Spain sit gracefully atop black and white Spanish tiles. Large windows from inside the main dining room open into Joselito’s refrigerator and wine room to serve as a colorful and vivid focal point of our fresh ingredients and prized wines.

OUR TEAM: The Joselito team is an extension of the Candon family. Everyone in the Joselito family—from dishwashers and bus boys to our hostesses and servers and kitchen staff—is deeply passionate about hospitality and making guests feel warm and welcomed from the moment they step foot into our doors to the moment they depart.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
