Ride Metro (and Taxis) For Free on New Year’s Courtesy of Bob Uecker!

Or rather, Miller Lite Free Rides® but same thing right?

From a press release:

“The Original Light Beer is partnering with Metro and Premium Distributors to help residents and visitors ring in the New Year safely. Miller Lite Free Rides® will be available on all Metrorail and Metrobus routes beginning at midnight on January 1, with free service until close at 3 a.m.

“We’re committed to making sure everyone in the D.C. area can enjoy our products responsibly year round,” said Diane Wagner, Alcohol Responsibility Manager, MillerCoors. “Through our partnerships with Metro, Premium Distributors and the nonprofit Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP), we’re working to keep local roadways safe while raising awareness that drunk driving is completely preventable.”

Free Rides will be available on all Metrorail lines and Metrobus routes from midnight until the Metro system closes at 3 a.m. On the rail system, customers should use their SmarTrip card to enter and exit the system and will not be charged for the trip. On Metrobus, riders can simply show their SmarTrip card to board at no charge. For specific route and schedule information, visit WMATA.com.

“We’re excited to partner with Miller Lite once again in offering safe rides to local residents on New Year’s Eve,” said Paul J. Wiedefeld, General Manager/CEO, Metro. “We want to remind the community to ring in the New Year safely and take advantage of Miller Lite Free Rides.”

MillerCoors is also offering free taxi rides on New Year’s Eve through its partnership with WRAP and its SoberRide program. Free cab rides (up to $ 30 and which have been offered each evening this month since December 16) will be offered from 10:00 p.m. on December 31, 2016 to 6:00 a.m. on January 1, 2017 up to a $30 fare. Additional details about WRAP’s SoberRide program are available at: www.soberride.com

Since its inception in 1987, the Free Rides program has provided more than 5.5 million people with a safe ride home and has been an important part of MillerCoors overall commitment to helping prevent drunk driving. Last year, Miller Lite provided more than 29,000 people in the D.C. region with safe, alternative transportation on New Year’s Eve.

“By teaming up with Miller Lite and Metro, Premium Distributors is proud to play a role in bringing this great service back to D.C.,” said Dan Currie, Vice President of Sales, Premium Distributors of D.C.

“MillerCoors has been integral in the fight against drunk driving in the Washington-metropolitan area and we are grateful for their investment in impaired driving prevention,” said Kurt Gregory Erickson, President & CEO, Washington Regional Alcohol Program.

Free Rides will also be offered on New Year’s Eve in Chicago; Dallas; Denver; Milwaukee and Madison, WI; Phoenix; and Duluth, Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN. For more information, visit MillerLiteFreeRides.com”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
