The completed Gingertown will remain on display in the lobby of 900 16th Street, NW through Monday, December 12th. The public is invited to come see the completed build during public viewing hours:
Wednesday (12/7) through Friday (12/9): 9:00am to 5:00pm
Saturday (12/10) through Sunday (12/11): 11:00am to 1:00pm
Monday (12/12): 9:00am to 5:00pm”
“A sugary imagination of the iconic city of London will come to life in Washington, DC on Tuesday, December 6th as Gingertown returns once again to celebrate the creativity, generosity, and civic spirit of the Washington-area design, building, and real estate community. This annual initiative, founded in 2006 by David M. Schwarz Architects (DMSAS), spreads holiday cheer to a host of local organizations that will receive the scrumptious structures along with donations raised through sponsor and participant contributions.
“At its heart, Gingertown celebrates imagination in design, elegance of execution, and an incredible spirit of generosity,” said Craig Williams, Principal of David M Schwarz Architects and honorary chairman of the Gingertown City Council.
This is the eleventh year that DMSAS has created a new master plan for a holiday-themed town and donated its sugary building materials. Teams of two-to-eight members will build nearly 50 individual structures for Gingertown London. Additional Gingertown events, using the same theme, also will be held and celebrated in Nashville, Dallas and Atlanta.
Visitors to this year’s Gingertown (www.gingertown.org) can experience London’s historic cultural fabric at St. Pez’s Cathedral, Westminster Andes & the Snow Globe Theatre, take in the architectural wonders at the Sour of London, House of Peppermint & Big Bon Bon, all before a relaxing stroll down the River M & Thames to the Sugar Glass Shard and Tootsie Modern. Paying homage to the bustling financial district of London, the trip will be capped off with jaunt across the Sour Bridge to view Wonka’s of London before departing from the Whopper-Loo train station.
Architects, engineers, building contractors and others who are used to working on a grand scale over months and years will have just four hours to erect the miniature village at 900 16th Street, NW. Participants will strive for best-in-show status from 5:30pm to 9:30pm as outstanding work is honored at the end of the evening in the categories of Most Innovative Use of Materials, Best Expression of Theme, Best Overall Design Quality, Best Overall Craftsmanship, Judge’s Choice and Mayor’s Award.
The hand-crafted structures will be on display at 900 Sixteenth, with public viewing hours Friday through Sunday, and then donated and put on display at local hospitals, health care facilities and community support organizations to spread the message of joy and hope during the holidays.
In DC, recipients include Children’s National Medical Center, St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, So Others Might Eat, The Wendt Center for Loss & Healing, and Family Matters.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
