National Cannabis Festival Lineup Announced for April 22nd

“The National Cannabis Festival production team today announced Talib Kweli, The Pharcyde and Backyard Band as the headliners for the second annual event  taking place on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the RFK Stadium Festival Grounds.

“The National Cannabis Festival is a one-of-a-kind event that uses music and art to educate the community about their rights and the most pressing cannabis policy issues,” said Caroline Phillips, founder of National Cannabis Festival, “We are incredibly excited to have hip hop legends Talib Kweli and The Pharcyde performing at the festival. Their energy and vibe is the perfect fit and we feel lucky to have artists that can both entertain and educate our audience.”

Additional concert performers include: reggae artist Kenyatta Hill (of Culture); DC-based tropicaliente band Empresarios; local favorite, DJ Ayescold; and, the Hippie Life Krew featuring Visto, Pinky Killacorn and Reesa Renee.

The National Cannabis Festival is is composed of a full day concert on the main festival stage sponsored by Wash Hydro, a vendor fair, an education pavilion and an advocacy village. The advocacy village is made up of 24 local and national non-profit partners who work together to outline joint federal and local calls to action. Advocacy partners include: Americans for Safe Access, Dance Safe, DC NORML, DC Vote, Delaware NORML, Drug Policy Alliance, Hemp History Week, Hemp Industries Association, Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, Marijuana Policy Project, Maryland NORML, National Cannabis Industry Association, NORML, Pittsburgh NORML, Students for Sensible Drug Policy, The Silver Tour, Veterans for Peace, Virginia NORML, Vote Hemp and Weed for Warriors.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
