Freedom 5K at President Lincoln’s Cottage this Saturday

“What: third annual Freedom 5K at President Lincoln’s Cottage (where Abraham Lincoln developed the Emancipation Proclamation and led our nation through the Civil War.)

When: Saturday, September 24th, race starts at 9am

Where: President Lincoln’s Cottage (Entrance at 140 Rock Creek Church Road NW, Washington DC 20011) and the 250-acre grounds of the Armed Forces Retirement Home)

Fee:
$35 for 5K participants
$5 for parking pass
$5 for Tot Dash

Who: Runners, joggers, walkers of all ages. Guest of honor Olympic champion and running icon, Joan Benoit Samuelson, plus Lighthouse Yoga will provide a pre-race yoga session and Paradigm Chiropractic will have a booth.

Why: All proceeds and donations support preservation, award-winning programs, and innovative initiatives such as the Students Opposing Slavery program at President Lincoln’s Cottage, the only privately funded National Monument in the nation.

Traverse a pastoral landscape that winds past ponds, fields, historic buildings and vistas on this breath-taking course that is otherwise closed to the public. The run culminates on the foot of the lawn at President Lincoln’s Cottage, where a ceremony will take place. The annual Freedom 5K is an unique opportunity for members of the public to race through the 250-acre grounds of the Armed Forces Retirement Home – home to hundreds of veterans who fought for freedom – in NW Washington, DC. Runners can see unique views of downtown DC, including the Capitol Building, Washington Monument, Basilica, and National Cathedral.

Winners will receive a private 10 person tour of the Cottage, 2 tickets to our Bourbon & Bluegrass event in May (tickets usually sell out in weeks!) and more.”
