From an email:

“I wanted to let you and your readers know that this Saturday, August 6, from 10 -2, the PTA will be hosting a yard sale at Cleveland Elementary School, 1825 8th St. NW. Depending on the weather, it will either be on the playground or inside the building. We’ll be selling freshly laundered uniform clothing in navy and white, as well as all sorts of household and child items for low, low prices! Our PTA must make up a $30K shortfall for this coming year to pay for necessary supplies, because the funds that would normally go for those things were used to save our Science and Reading Specialist teachers.

At least stop by to enjoy some delicious cupcakes — they will go fast!
Another way to support our school is to donate funds via our GoFundMe page at https://www.gofundme.com/ClevelandES-PTA. Or donate needed supplies directly here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/904094da4a92fa31-cleveland.
On behalf of Cleveland parents, students, teachers and staff, we greatly appreciate any and all support from the community!
And a shoutout to Four Points developers and Shaw Main Streets for covering the cost of laundering the uniforms!”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
