From a press release:

“Vieux Carre, a New Orleans-style cocktail bar in downtown D.C. (1413 K Street NW), opens tonight and promises to bring a taste of the Big Easy to the nation’s capital. Vieux Carre — or “French Quarter” — is inspired by the world-famous party town and its rich history of one-of-a-kind food and drinks.

The stylish, candlelit venue features a mezzanine level that allows bar patrons to look down at the marble bar and first floor below, reminiscent of the many historic buildings on New Orleans’ Bourbon Street. The chandeliers and wrought-iron details create an old-world vibe, while dark paneling makes it modern. The bar also includes a “bartender’s lab” with a special glass window through which guests can watch bartenders preparing garnishes, syrups and other add-ons for delicious, unique New Orleans-inspired cocktails.

Guests will enjoy classic Louisiana drinks such as the Hurricane and French 75, the namesake Vieux Carre as well as lesser-known cocktails like the Bywater and Absinthe Frappe, in addition to Abita Beer, a New Orleans favorite. The bar will also serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic snow balls, with rotating flavors of shaved ice made in-house for a fun twist on a childhood summer treat. This Fall, Vieux Carre will begin serving New Orleans staples like po’ boys and cajun fries.

“New Orleans is one of my favorite cities, and our amazing Beverage Director, Jeff Coles, grew up there,” says Creative Director Seth McClelland who also created The Speak, which sits just below Vieux Carre. “We have always talked about bringing the storied and unique cocktail culture to D.C., and so Vieux Carre was born.”

ABOUT VIEUX CARRE: Vieux Carre is located at 1413 K Street NW, Washington D.C. 20005.

HOURS OF OPERATION: Monday through Saturday, 5 pm to 2 am and open until 3 am on weekends.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
