From WMATA:

“Calling all local performing artists and entertainers! Metro’s Art in Transit Program is inviting local performers of all genres—dancers, live artists, musicians, poets and more—to audition for the MetroPerforms! and Music on the Mall programs.

MetroPerforms! offers local artists the chance to make Metrorail station entrances their stage. Selected artists will perform on a volunteer basis while sharing their talents with Metro riders throughout the region.

Auditions will be held June 24, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Metro Headquarters, 600 Fifth Street, NW, Washington, DC, on a first-come, first-served basis. All interested artists should visit wmata.com/metroperforms for registration information and additional details.

In addition to the chance to perform at Metro stations, artists may be selected to perform for Music on the Mall, a summer program developed by Metro in cooperation with the Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, the National Park Service, and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. Music on the Mall brings live entertainment to the Nation’s Capital with selected performers and live visual artists who perform on the lawn of the National Mall on Thursdays during lunchtime from noon to 1 p.m.

“Both MetroPerforms! and Music on the Mall are wonderful examples of collaborations between programs dedicated to promoting the performing arts,” said Laurent Odde, Metro’s Art in Transit Program Manager. “They offer local artists opportunities to share their talent and provide area residents as well as the many visitors who travel to the region each day an enhanced Metro experience.”

MetroPerforms! and Music on the Mall will be held through the end of August. MetroPerforms! performances will take place at designated station entrances at a distance far enough away from stairs and escalators to ensure unobstructed access for riders. Performers must pass a security background check and adhere to performance guidelines.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
