From Friends of Screen on the Green:

“Hello friends,

About this time in 2009, when we learned that Screen on the Green might be canceled, we took action. Through email and hyperlocal social media campaigning, we demonstrated how important Screen on the Green was to the DC community. We held a big event at the Spy Museum, with tuxedos and gowns, and succeeded in saving our beloved summer event. In 2010, we took to Facebook and Twitter and again shared our love for Screen on the Green and it’s importance as an indelible landmark event of summer in the District of Columbia. Both times, you helped us save SOTG.

It has been 7 years since, and we’ve had some good times and great movies on the Mall. DC has seen dozens of other outdoor movie series pop up around town. Still, you selected Screen on the Green as “Best Outdoor Film Series” in Washington City Paper’s 2016 “Best of DC” reader awards.

Today we share some sad news: HBO and Comcast have decided to discontinue hosting Screen on the Green in DC, effective this summer.

According to their public statement, “HBO is very proud of our 17 years of Screen on the Green on the Mall. Unfortunately, this year we have decided to move on and place our resources elsewhere. We thank everyone that has assisted and attended for their many years of support.”

Our organization has reached out to leadership at the Trust for the National Mall to explore opportunities to collaborate and possibly find new sponsors who can help continue this iconic tradition. We will keep you informed of any changes.

In the meantime, please email [email protected] if you have other thoughts and ideas. Also, please tag and share your favorite memories of Screen on the Green on our Facebook page. On Twitter, tweet us at @SOTGinDC and use #SOTGinDC.

Sincerely,

Jesse B Rauch, President
Friends of Screen on the Green”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
