“Farragut Fridays” Return this Friday

farragut

From a press release:

“The cherry blossoms are gone, and the temperatures are rising, which means another D.C. summer is almost here. The Golden Triangle Business Improvement District (BID) kicks off the first of 22 Farragut Fridays on May 6, in Farragut Square Park at Connecticut Avenue and K Street NW. Last year, more than 39,000 people attended Farragut Fridays.

Farragut Fridays is a free outdoor summer event that brings together area workers, residents, and visitors to enjoy innovative activities in one of the city’s most well-known parks. Throughout the day, people can use the free Wi-Fi at Outdoor Office (9–11 a.m., 3–5 p.m.), enjoy a variety of activities at Picnic in the Park (Noon–2 p.m.), and spread out their blankets for an election-themed Golden Cinema (Sunset). The complete schedule of activities and movie titles can be found at goldentriangledc.com/farragutfridays.

Grab some lunch and enjoy a Picnic in the Park with the unique pop-up experiences coming each week — from programming courses to musical performances and some adoptable puppy playtime.

The pop-up schedule includes:

· CPR training for hundreds with DC Fire and EMS Department

· Puppy adoption from Washington Animal Rescue League and Lucky Dog Animal Rescue

· Tech course hosted by General Assembly

· Table tennis tournament with D.C. Councilmembers

· Scavenger hunt by the International Spy Museum

· Musical performance by Wolf Trap

· Origami lessons with the Japan Information and Culture Center

The fun doesn’t stop after the sun goes down. Hundreds of people will gather at Farragut Park each week for some very presidential movies during Golden Cinema. For the kick-off on May 20, ABC 7 Senior Political Reporter Scott Thuman will introduce “American President.” The timely theme is “Hail to the Chief” in honor of the elections.

This year’s newest activity, the LEGO build and play area, will pull workers out of their daily slog through creative play that is proven to help adults relax. Participants can count on a number of other weekly activities for Farragut Fridays, including table tennis, painting, cornhole, and other lawn games, in addition to the pop-up events.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
