NCF-lineup

From a press release:

“The National Cannabis Festival today announced De La Soul as the headlining performer for the inaugural event taking place on April 23, 2016, at the Festival Grounds at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. Lead-up performances by dancehall sensation Jesse Royal, Thievery Corporation’s Congo Sanchez, DC gogo favorites Backyard Band and local reggae group Nappy Riddem will set the tone for an afternoon of art, advocacy and education in celebration of progress on ending cannabis prohibition.

“National Cannabis Festival is an important event for our city and the nation,” said Anwan Glover of Backyard Band. “Cannabis policies impact everything from equal justice to the economy. It’s time we recognized this community and industry with a big celebration in DC.”

The National Cannabis Festival has 4 major components: a full day concert on the main festival stage, a vendor fair, an education pavilion and an advocacy fair. The festival brings together more than 20 advocacy groups with the shared interest educating, informing and influencing cannabis policy at the state and/or federal level. Advocacy partners include: Americans for Safe Access, DanceSafe, DC NORML, DC Vote, Delaware NORML, Drug Policy Alliance, Hemp Industries Association, Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, Marijuana Policy Project, Maryland NORML, National Cannabis Industry Association, National NORML, Pittsburgh NORML, The Silver Tour, StoptheDrugWar.org, Students for Sensible Drug Policy, Virginia NORML, Veterans for Peace, Vote Hemp and Weed for Warriors.

“I am so excited that DC will be hosting the inaugural National Cannabis Festival,” said DC Council member David Grosso, “My interest in cannabis decriminalization and legalization has always been about social justice and ending the arrests and racial disparity in terms of enforcement. We have certainly come a long way just in the last 3 years with the help of policy advocates, business owners, and enthusiasts. And though there is more to do, the National Cannabis Festival is a great way to celebrate our progress.”

Tickets for the festival are available via Ticketmaster and start at $35 for General Admission or $250 for the VIP Package. For more information on the forthcoming National Cannabis Festival visit www.nationalcannabisfestival.com.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
