“Toli Moli Takeover: A Burmese Tea and Snack Time Pop-Up” at Thip Khao

Thip Khao
3462 14th Street, NW

From a press release:

“On Tuesday, March 29, 2016, from 3:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., the mother-daughter duo behind Toli Moli, Jocelyn Law-Yone and Simone Jacobson, are bringing falooda and Anglo-Burmese snacks to Thip Khao, home of the Lao food movement in D.C. [3462 14th Street, NW]

After Toli Moli introduced nearly 1,000 eaters in D.C. to falooda, the family-owned business continues its mission to sweeten snack time with the introduction of Burmese tea leaf salad and two new falooda flavors: Cherry Blossom and Bourbon-Cassis. The Cherry Blossom dessert drink is layered with mint-apple jellies, apples soaked in homemade cherry syrup, basil seeds, vermicelli noodle pudding and is topped with vanilla ice cream. This unique taste of Spring is pale pink in color, akin to the flowers in full bloom, complete with green “leaves” of gelatin that add a refreshing burst of sweetness to the falooda flavor profile.

The Bourbon-Cassis flavor features a standout pairing of orange zest-Crème de Cassis jellies, basil seeds, noodle pudding and a hefty serving of vanilla ice cream. Its varied textures add increasing depth to the sipping experience for both bourbon and dessert aficionados alike.

During this one-day preview of Toli Moli’s expanded menu offerings, diners can expect to sample falooda flights, two new falooda flavors, Burmese tea, locally roasted Gold Cup Coffee, and a sampling of bite-sized treats reminiscent of Chef JoJo’s childhood in Burma. Falooda flavors range from the “light and decadent” (BYT) Royal Falooda to a vegan option, the Mango Mogul, and the Black Eye Falooda, which features cold brew coffee jellies made from Gold Cup Coffee, topped with an oat-coffee grind-marshmallow crumble.

“The most amazing thing for me so far has been the community response,” says Chef JoJo, Toli Moli’s co-founder and chef. “People keep telling us it reminds them of home. The diaspora of falooda lovers is truly diverse. We’re constantly amazed to see our falooda bringing different types of people together around snack time.”

Toli Moli’s falooda will range in price from $7.99 – $11.99 with a flight of three faloodas available for $9.99 (+$2 for the boozy option). A free cup of Burmese tea or Gold Cup Coffee will be offered with the purchase of a snack tray and falooda. Coffee and tea prices vary: $2.25 – $3.50. All items will be available until sold out on a first come, first served basis. No RSVP required. Thip Khao is typically closed Tuesdays, so they will not serve Lao cuisine March 29.”
