Eleven juveniles and three 18 year olds arrested for alleged robberies around the District.

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department announced that several arrests have been made in recent robbery cases from around Washington, DC.

First District:

On Saturday, February 26, 2016, three juvenile males were arrested for a Robbery (Force & Violence) offense that occurred in the 400 block of 12th Street, NW. CCN: 16-029-511

On Saturday, February 26, 2016, at approximately 5:25 pm, while at the listed location, three suspects assaulted and stole personal items from the victim.

On Sunday, February 27th, 2016, a juvenile female was arrested for an Assault with Attempt to Commit Robbery offense that occurred in the 800 block 1st Street, Northeast. CCN: 16-030-094

o On Sunday, February 27th, 2016, at approximately 7:00 pm, the suspect approached the victim, in an attempt to snatch her purse. The suspect demanded the victim to hand over her belongings. The suspect then assaulted the victim and fled northbound.

Third District:

On February 27th, 2016, a juvenile male was arrested for a Robbery (Snatch) offense that occurred in the 700 block of Florida Avenue, Northeast. CCN: 16-029-764

o On Saturday, February 27, 2016, at approximately 5:00 am, the suspect approached the victim and snatched his cell phone. The victim flagged down members of MPD, where the officers were able to stop and arrest the suspect.

On Monday, February 29, 18-year-old Carlos Perez, 18-year-old Miguel Saravia-Torres, and two juvenile males were arrested for an Attempted Robbery (Knife) offense that occurred in the 3100 block of 14th, Street, Northwest. CCN: 16-031-039

o On Monday, February 29, 2016, at approximately 2:13 pm, four suspects approached and surrounded two victims, demanding them to hand over their personal belongings. The victims were able to flee the location.

Fifth District:

On Sunday, February 28th, 2016, a juvenile male was arrested for an Assault with Intent to Commit Robbery that occurred in the 1600 block of New York Avenue, Northeast. CCN: 16-030-366

On Sunday, February 28th, 2016, at approximately 6:14 am, the suspect approached the victim, asking him a question. The suspect then demanded cash, assaulted the victim, and fled the scene.

On Wednesday, March 2, 2016, a juvenile male was arrested for an Armed Robbery offense that occurred in the 1000 block of Rhode Island Avenue, Northeast. CCN: 16-017-280

On February 3rd, 2016, at approximately 7:20 pm, a victim was walking in the area, when he was approached from behind by three suspects wearing ski masks. One of the suspects brandished a handgun, while the other suspects went through his pockets taking US Currency and a phone.

On Wednesday, March 02, 2016, 18-year-old Devin Mallory, of Northwest, DC, was arrested and charged with a Robbery Force and Violence offense that occurred in the 1300 block of 5th Street, Northeast. CCN: 16-031-712

o On Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at approximately 4:20 pm, seven suspects were walking towards the victim. One of the suspects assaulted the victim from behind, causing him to stumble and drop his cell phone and headphones. The suspects then fled with the victim’s property.

On Thursday, March 03, 2016, 18-year-old Malik Leftwhich, of Southeast, DC, was arrested and charged with a Robbery (Fear) offense that occurred in the 2300 Block of 13th Place, Northeast. CCN: 16-025-011

o On Thursday, February 18, 2016, at approximately 7:10 pm, the victim was approached by four suspects. One of the suspects made demands towards the victim, and pushed him up against a wall. Another suspect then grabbed the victim, taking his phone and keys.

Seventh District:

On Friday, February 26, 2016, a juvenile male was arrested for an Assault with Intent to Commit Robbery offense that occurred in the 1400 block of Bruce Place, Southeast. CCN: 16-029-281

o On Friday, February 26, 2016, at approximately 12:57 pm, a suspect grabbed a victim and placed him in a choke hold and attempted to retrieve US currency from the victim’s front pants pocket. The victim freed himself from the suspects grasp and informed authorities.

On Friday, February 26, 2016, two juvenile males were arrested and charged with Armed Robbery (Gun) for an offense that occurred in the 1100 block of Eaton Road, Southeast. CCN: 16-029-537

o On Friday, February 26, 2016, at approximately 7:07 pm, a victim used a phone app to make arrangements and exchange merchandise. When the victim arrived to the location, six suspects took his merchandise. Two of the suspects brandished handguns during the encounter.

On Thursday, March 3, 2016, a juvenile male was arrested and charged with a Robbery (Fear) offense that occurred in the 2600 block of Stanton Road, Southeast. CCN: 16-032-936

o On Thursday, March 3, 2016, at approximately 4:20 pm, two suspects approached a victim and demanded property. The suspects proceeded to pat down the victim and took US currency and a phone. Both suspects fled on foot towards the 2600 block of Bowen Road Southeast.

Investigation into these and other offenses continues.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
