From an email:

“We’re sad to say that we’ll be closing our Adams Morgan location for good on April 30th and reopening at 3289 M Street NW on May 2nd. We love Adams Morgan and will miss it dearly but we’re also SO EXCITED to move Violet to a much larger space and bring our brand and exceptional customer service to Georgetown!

Since we’re moving moving to Georgetown at the end of April, we wanted to show our appreciation for all that our neighbors in Adams Morgan have given us over the last 5 years. To celebrate our 5th anniversary, on 3/11, we will be making three $1,100 donations to non-profits in the greater Adams Morgan neighborhood. We would love for our customers (and neighbors) to vote to assist us in picking the recipients. Voting will begin tomorrow at 5pm via an online form. Likes and comments on social media will not count towards voting. Find us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ShopVioletDC/ and Instagram @shopvioletdc to cast your vote!”

Mary’s Center (maryscenter.org) works to provide health care, family literacy, and social services to those whose needs often go unmet by the public and private systems. They offer individualized services that set individuals on a path toward good health, stable families, and economic independence through high-quality, professional care.

Jubilee Housing (jubileehousing.org) provides affordable housing and supportive services to over 700 economically disadvantaged individuals and families who reside in Adams Morgan. The Jubilee Housing staff is also available to help residents envision and move towards larger life goals through supportive relationships with staff and peers in the community.

The Potter’s House (pottershousedc.org) is an Adams Morgan center for activism, the arts, and community development. In addition to paying employees a living wage and providing them with heath insurance, Potter’s House serves a daily “pay what you can” soup to ensure all who walk through their doors receive a nutritious meal regardless of their income level.

Sitar Arts Center (sitarartscenter.org) fosters personal and artistic growth to the children and youth of Washington DC through a multidisciplinary arts education. Artists volunteer their time each week to teach through visual arts, music, drama, dance, digital arts, and creative writing. The Center offers after-school, weekend, and summer classes to more than 800 students a year, 80 percent of whom come from low-income households.

Jubilee Jumpstart (jubileejumpstart.org) offers a dual-language learning environment which readies children for school by developing strong language and literacy skills, thinking skills, self-control, and self-confidence. The majority of families who enroll in their programs receive subsidized funding to cover all or part of their tuition, while some families pay full tuition. This enriches the lives of children by providing a socio-economically diverse environment in which to learn and grow.

Joseph’s House (josephshouse.org) After opening in 1990 in response to the AIDS crisis, Joseph’s House offers comprehensive nursing and support services to those in the DC homeless community with late-stage and end-stage AIDS and terminal cancer. Their clinical staff and trained caregivers provide a depth of physical, emotional, and spiritual support to men and women who would otherwise die a lonely, isolated death.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
