“Dear PoPville,
Thank you to a stranger. On Saturday, 13 February at roughly 1:15 pm, I was walking from my place in Ledroit Park to the grocery store. I was at 3rd and Elm NW when I heard a verbal altercation about 15 feet behind me. I briefly turned around to gauge the situation, saw two men arguing, and then continued walking. The voices escalated so I looked behind me once more and saw one of the men pull a gun and fire it at the other man. They then both scattered.
During this somewhat scary 30 seconds, a man roughly two blocks away was helpfully shouting instructions at me (believe me, it’s much more difficult to react when you are in this situation, even if you “know” what to do…). The man then came and kept me company until the cops came. He then offered to walk me home or to the place of my choosing. With all of the confusion and adrenaline, I failed to get his name. So, in the off chance you read this, I just want to send a big thank you for taking 20 minutes out of your day to keep me company and talk me down a bit during a stressful time. Thanks for helping DC feel even more like a community and a home.“

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
