From a press release:

“Haiyo Dog, Asian hot dogs on milk bread buns, is popping up at EatsPlace, 3607 Georgia Avenue NW, starting February 8, 2016, Monday through Saturday 5 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

On Monday, February 8, 2016, starting at 5:00p.m., Chef Katy Chang will introduce Haiyo Dog, her unique hot dog and milk bread bun concept, at the food incubator and restaurant accelerator EatsPlace.

Washingtonians will be the first to taste Haiyo Dog’s distinct flavors inspired from her family in Shanghai, Tokyo, Seoul and the Midwest. Growing up in Washington DC, Katy travelled extensively to the East and Midwest to visit relatives and taste the local foods. Haiyo Dog specializes in hot dogs that include a variety of topping variations of ma po tofu, sushi, tonkatsu, and kimchi, on a milk bread bun. Sides will include smothered pierogies and hasselback potatoes, a baked not fried version of the Asian street snack. Dessert will include black sesame buckeyes, a variation of the Midwestern sweet.

“House-baked Asian milk bread wraps around local amish beef, chicken or organic veggie dogs and are topped with the flavors I grew up eating on the road in Shanghai, Tokyo, Seoul and Ohio. The name Haiyo Dog comes from a mash up of some of the places I’m inspired by. When I was a very young child and heard people say good morning in Japanese, I always thought they were saying Ohio and marveled at how the small the world was. I took the coincidence as a sign to do Haiyo Dog.”

Haiyo Dog’s menu will have vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free items.”
