A reader passes on from the Salvation Army:
“Dear Sponsors and Volunteers,
I write to you with disappointing news. Unfortunately, teenagers broke into DC warehouse overnight and stole from bags already prepared to go out to families. It appears as though they targeted gifts for the older children, especially electronics.
The police are actively investigating this crime scene, and we are enhancing our current security measures until distribution ends. We are doing a complete inventory and The Salvation Army will be replacing all items we find to be missing.
At this time, we are calling on the community to support us in the form of monetary donations and electronics, such as MP3 players and tablets. Donations can be made at a Red Kettle, online at www.salvationarmynca.org or brought to our headquarters at 2626 Pennsylvania Avenue NW from 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.
Given the large number of donors, we will not be able to communicate with sponsors individually regarding your donations. We can assure you that each of the 6,000 children sponsored in the District will have a great Christmas holiday.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
