Yesterday we learned about all the retail and restaurants coming to the Convention Center. Here’s lots more info about what got me most giddy – from a press release:

“Marjorie Meek-Bradley (ChefMarjie.com), in partnership with Geoff Dawson and Peter Bayne of Tin Shop (TinShopDC.com), are very proud to announce their new sandwich shop Smoked & Stacked in D.C.’s Shaw neighborhood. Smoked & Stacked will showcase in-house brined and smoked pastrami that will melt in your mouth. The menu will also feature smoked chicken, portobello mushrooms, and savory breakfast sandwiches with more to come. Customers can choose from the signature sandwich menu, but will also be able to build their own sandwich or salad that will be fast and delicious.

“The future of food is simple, well prepared items that allow us to focus on a couple of things and do them well,” says upcoming Top Chef contestant Marjorie Meek-Bradley. “I want to make food that I love, the food that I want to eat.” Marjorie spent the first chapter of her career working under some of the best chefs in the country before settling in D.C. where she is the Executive Chef at Ripple and Roofers Union. While working at Ripple Marjorie perfected her house-made pastrami for Sunday Brunch.

“We are very excited to be opening the first location of Smoked & Stacked on 9th St. in the Convention Center,” says partner Geoff Dawson. “There are so many new spots opening on the block, we expect the neighborhood to become a hub of the growing bar and restaurant scene in DC.” Smoked & Stacked is expected to open in Spring of 2016. More details to come as we approach our opening date.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
