Man Shoots Himself in Leg in the 5100 block of 7th St, NW; Gun Recovered A Couple Blocks Away

A reader reported Saturday night around 8pm:

“Another shooting. 7th St NW b/t Gallatin & Hamilton. Someone got shot in the leg. They’re ok.”

Originally MPD tweeted:

“Shooting at 1959 hours in the 4900 block of 7th Street NW. Subject Stopped”

After a resident inquiry MPD responded:

There was no shooting at this location. MPD responded to a man with a gun call. The suspect was eventually located and a gun was recovered.

MPD also responded to the call for a shooting in the 5100 block of 7th St NW and found a subject suffering from a non life threatening gun shot wound. A gun was recovered and it was later determined that the subject that was shot accidentally shot himself.”

“Officers responded to 4900 b/o 7th St Northwest for a man with a gun call. Officers observed the suspect, who matched the lookout, standing in front of a house in the block that has been of concern to several neoghbors. Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect in front of the location, at which time suspect fled inside of the house. Officers received permission from the home owner to search the house for the suspect. The homeowner explained to Officers that the suspect was an acquaintance of her children but he did not live at or have permission to enter her home. The suspect was located by Officers hiding in a crawl space in the basement. Basement are was search. Located was a Black 9mm handgun. During and interview, the suspect admitted to having the handgun. The suspect was charged with thus offense.

Lastly, the suspect was also identified via surveillance video as a person involved in an armed robbery of an establishment located at 5401 Georgia Ave NW. The suspect was also charged with this offense.

The suspect gave a home address in the 900 b/o Delafield Pl.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
