“I am a teacher at Brightwood Education Campus. We had several families affected by the car crash in Hyattsville last weekend. One of our kindergartners passed away. We have a first grade student who is still in critical condition, as well as several parents and siblings who were seriously injured. The school is raising money to help the families with funeral costs and medical care for the families involved. Could you share the link with readers who may be interested in donating?”
On Sunday, November 8, 2015, there was a horrific car accident in Hyattsville, Maryland that involved a church van and a truck, where four people died and fourteen others were injured.
Sadly, Stanley Gomez-Rodriguez, a kindergartener, at Brightwood Education Campus, died as a result of the accident. In addition, her mother and baby sister were also critically injured.
Unfortunately, there was another family from our school in the accident. Diana Rodriguez, a first grader, and her brother, Freddie Rodriquez, a fourth grader, and their parents were also severely injured in the accident.
Our school (Brightwood Education Campus, Washington, DC) is seeking immediate donations to help these families cover burial expenses for Stanley and medical expenses for those who have been hospitalized. Prior to the accident, these families were surviving on meager incomes. Your contributions will be used solely to help defray the cost of the funeral and to aid those who will need medical treatment over the weeks and months to come.
We hope you will reach deep within your hearts to help us support these families during their time of crisis. In advance, we thank you for your support and your generosity.
If you are able you can make a donation here.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
