“Silo Restaurant, located at 919 5th St. NW, is partnering with Vermont-based WhistlePig Straight Rye Whiskey for an exclusive Roast & Toast event on August 8th. Chef Kerry Brian Tate will feature a mouth-watering menu fit for a king and WhistlePig’s Steward of the Brand, Max Spector will be serving tastings of both the 10 Year and 12 Year Old World Straight Rye Whiskeys. Max said, “WhistlePig Rye Whiskey is proud to partner with the Silo Restaurant for an amazing night that pairs great whiskey with great food to create the ultimate dining experience!”

Owner, Reza Akhavan, is excited to feature WhistlePig and hopes to host many more exclusive events at Silo. As a neighborhood gathering place, Silo’s goal is to provide excellent food, cocktails and events in a comfortable environment that feels like home.

Roast & Toast will begin with a cocktail hour that will include passed Pork Belly Sliders with WhistlePig Vanilla Maple Syrup, Pigs in a Blanket with WhistlePig Mustard Crème Fraiche, and Deviled Eggs with WhistlePig Glazed Bacon enjoyed with tastings of WhistlePig’s 10 Year, 100 Proof Aged in Bourbon Barrels and 12 Year Old World Rye Whiskeys.

Guests are encouraged to submit their favorite whiskey recipes to be included in a Cocktail Competition with prizes including WhistlePig gift baskets and Silo gift certificates.

Dinner will be served family style, so come with a hearty appetite. While enjoying House Pickled Vegetables & Olives, Baby Wedge Salad, Heirloom Tomatoes, Ricotta Gnocchi, Roast Pig, BBQ Pulled Pork, Brussel Sprouts, Corn on the Cob, Baked Beans and Garlic Cheese Bread, sip on specialty WhistlePig Cocktails including The Rob Royal, The Grand Pig, American Jackass, and Fashionable Pig.

After dinner, selected craftsmen will compete for 1st and 2nd place prizes and the title of Silo’s Roast & Toast WhistlePig Winner. Guests will finish the evening by satisfying the sweet tooth with WhistlePig Old World Macerated Strawberry Shortcake and Vanilla Ice Cream Bread Pudding.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
