From an email:

“Annie’s Ace Hardware, in collaboration with E.L. Haynes High School Robotics Club and RIIDE Bikes, is hosting a raffle to benefit the E.L. Haynes Robotics Team. Raffle participants will have a chance to win the newly developed RIIDE Electric Bike which was created and is assembled in the District of Columbia. Tickets are $25 and available at Annie’s Hardware and from E.L. Haynes students. The raffle drawing will be held at Annie’s Ace Hardware on April 11, 2015, at 1 p.m.

The E.L. Haynes Robotics Club was established in 2013 and has competed in three competitions, placing 10th in the DC Region. This year’s regional contest, held at the University of Maryland’s Cole Field House, is March 25, 2015 and the team is working hard to make it to this year’s National contest in St. Louis, Missouri on April 25, 2015. “This contest is like a Nerd Super Bowl,” says Shane Donovan, the club’s advisor and a physics teacher at E.L. Haynes. “Our students keep getting better every year!” To learn more about their projects, visit www.team4821.weebly.com.

RIIDE Bikes were created by two District of Columbia Residents, Amber Wason and Jeff Stafanis, to meet the need for reliable, eco-friendly, and efficient transportation. RIIDE Bikes are proudly assembled in D.C. and are sold exclusively at Annie’s Ace Hardware. More information about the RIIDE electric bikes can be found at www.riide.com. Amber and Jeff are “delighted to be partnering with the clever students at E.L. Haynes and Annie’s Ace Hardware.”

Anne Stom, owner of Annie’s Hardware is proud to be part of the connection between the Robotics Club and RIIDE. “What I’m enjoying about this is how psyched the kids are about technology. As an employer, I love that they are learning and practicing their problem solving skills as those are skills needed in all walks of life,” Stom said. “It’s also pretty amazing that the folks from RIIDE are engaging with the class and sharing their experience of bringing their product to market so that the young people are learning not just how to invent a product, but also how to take it to the next step. It’s a win all the way around!”

The drawing will be at Annie’s Hardware, 1240 Upshur St., NW, Washington, DC, 20011. One hundred sixty tickets will be sold; the winner does not need to be present to win.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
