From MPD:

“4D Officer Greg Shifley responded to a call for a package theft. The victim had a surveillance camera that captured the suspect go onto his/her porch, open a UPS package, sift through the contents, discard the package, and walk away. Officer Shifley viewed the surveillance footage and made note of the description of the suspect, the suspect’s clothing, and the seemingly empty back pack that he was carrying. While on patrol, Officer Shifley, located the subject that he had previously seen on the surveillance video but this time the back pack was full and the subject was carrying several UPS packages. The suspect was in possession of packages from residences in the following areas:

6700 block of 5th St NW
7400 and 7000 blocks of Blair Road NW
7100 block of Piney Branch Road NW
500 block of Peabody Street NW

He was also in possession of property that were not in packages so we are unable to associate the property to its owner at this time.

Additionally, he was in possession of a screwdriver, so he is probably a good suspect in the theft from autos that have been occurring in the area, but at this point we don’t have enough information to tie him to any actual cases of theft from auto.

This is a good example of a citizen with a good surveillance camera, a quick response and subsequent follow up by Officer Shifley that led to the arrest of the suspect. The suspect is identified as:

Douglas Martinez-Amaya, Hispanic male, 29 years of age, of the 1400 block of Park Road, NW.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
