Got wisdom? We need long-term MENTORS for motivated low-income students!:
“Nationally, 41% of low-income students will enter college, while only 8% will finish by their mid-20s. In Wards 7 and 8, where the highest percentage of our students reside, only 1 in 3 students finish high school within five years, and only 1 in 20 high-school graduates earn a college degree within five years.
Since inception, 99% of Capital Partners for Education (CPE) graduates have gone on to college, and 70% have graduated on time.
Founded in 1993, Capital Partners for Education (CPE) is a dynamic college preparatory program that helps motivated, low-income students in the Washington Metropolitan area to get to and through college by providing one-on-one mentoring, college and career preparation and support, individualized staff support, school partnerships and scholarships.
We are now hosting mentor trainings for our class of 9th Grade Trailblazers! This two-year mentoring relationship will include: monthly in-person meetings, quarterly staff supported mentor-mentee workshops, weekly email exchange via our e-mentoring platform, iMentor; and weekly phone calls.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
